Ghislain de Mareuil has been working in China or on China-related projects since 2001.
In parallel with his role at Shanghaivest, he is a M&A and corporate lawyer. During his career he held positions in Beijing and Shanghai with major international law firms such as Paul Hastings and DLA Piper.
He advised numerous European and US companies and funds on how to structure their investments or operations in China and helped them negotiate with their Chinese partners or with Chinese authorities. He also assisted Chinese companies in their dealings with Western businesses.
Before working as a business lawyer, Ghislain de Mareuil started his career in Paris as an export consultant for French small and medium size enterprises and management consultant with Accenture (then still known as Andersen Consulting).
He is a graduate from Sciences Po Paris (1992) and also holds master degrees with honors in International Business from Paris Dauphine (1993) and Business Law from Paris Pantheon Sorbonne (1994) universities. He was admitted at the Paris Bar as one of the laureates. He is the author or co-author of many articles, and a regular speaker at conferences on China/Europe business issues. He shares his time between Europe and China.
